Bhojpur villagers want NEA branch office

BHOJPUR, JUL 22 - Local people in around a dozen VDCs in the northern and eastern regions in the district are forced to travel for a whole day to reach the district headquarters to pay electricity tariff.

Villagers said they have to spend around Rs 1,600 per person for transportation and other expenses as the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has not established its branch office in the area.

Narayan Acharya of Champe VDC said each family in the area pays minimum Rs 80 for 20 units of electricity on average. “However, each household has to spend at least Rs 1,600 to pay the tariff,” he said.

"We pay electricity tariff regularly, fearing fine and power disconnection," said Mani Rai of Yaku, adding that they would be greatly relieved if a branch office was established in the area.

The electricity consumers in the VDCs have also accused the NEA employees of misbehaving them.

Meanwhile, local people from the VDCs have submitted a memorandum to the Bhojpur-based NEA branch, demanding that a branch office be established at a convenient location in the region. They have also asked the authorities concerned to inform them about load shedding schedule.
